Steve Roggenbuck (born November 11, 1987) is an American poet, blogger, and YouTuber.
Life[]
Roggenbuck grew up in Ruth, Michigan.[1]
He attended Central Michigan University as an undergraduate. He then began an M.F.A. in poetry at Columbia College Chicago,[2] but dropped out in late 2011 after becoming disillusioned with the program.[3]
In 2012 he toured the United States for over 11 months, performing his poetry, staying with Internet friends, and living frugally.[3] During this period Roggenbuck contributed to the rapid growth of the Alt Lit writing community by "mov[ing] about the country hosting alt lit parties, recruiting and inspiring new alt lit writers."[4]
Roggenbuck's work has been profiled by the New York Times,[5] Rolling Stone,[6] The New Yorker,[7] Gawker,[8] The Atlantic,[9] The Fader,[10] The Guardian,[11] and Flavorwire.[12] His most popular video has been viewed over 200,000 times online.[13]
Roggenbuck has done over 150 poetry performances in 5 countries, including in 29 states of the United States.[14]
He lives in Tucson, Arizona, where he is an editor at Boost House, a small press and arts residency.[7][15]
Writing[]
His work is noted for its utilization of internet self-publishing, creative misspelling, and themes of carpe diem and appreciation of the natural world.[7]
