Sophia Louisa Little (1799-1893)[1] was an American poet and miscellaneous writer.

Life[]

Little was born Sophia Louisa Robbins in Newport, Rhode Island , the daughter of Mary (Ellery) and U.S. senator Asher Robbins, an attorney.[2] She married William Little, Jr. of Boston in 1824.[3] The couple had 3 children.[2]

Her earliest published poem, on "Thanksgiving," appeared in a Boston gift book.[2] Under the pen name of "Rowena," she contributed to periodicals and published several books in verse and prose and verse, including an imitation of Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. She was active in the antislavery and temperance movements.[3]
