Selections from Modern Poets was the name of 2 anthologies of English poetry published in the 1920s.
History[]
Both anthologies were compiled and edited by J.C. Squire, and published by Martin Secker of London.
Squires began compiling the original volume, Selections from Modern Poets, in 1919. His objective was to show "what many of us think of as an exceptional recent flowering" of British poetry; accordingly, he limited himself to younger poets, arbitrarily excluding anyone born before 1870 (that is, 50 years old or older in 1919). [1] This first volume was published in 1921.
The 2nd volume, Second Selection from Modern Poets, was published in 1924. For this volume, Squires excluded anyone born before 1875.
The 2 volumes were reissued a single book in 1930.
