Rob Winger (born 1974) is a Canadian poet.[1]

Life[]

Winger was born in Ontario. He grew up in Springvale, Ontario.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Allison University, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Ottawa,[2] an M.A. in English literature from the University of Guelph in 2002 and a Ph.D. from Carleton University in 2009.

He has lived in Toronto, Sackville, New Brunswick, South Korea, Bangkok, Thailand, Guelph, Ontario, and Ottawa, Ontario.

Winger lives with his family in Port Perry, Ontario. He has been an assistant professor in the department of English at Trent University in Peterborough since 2013.

Selections from his debut collection of poems entitled Muybridge's Horse, about Eadweard Muybridge, have been translated into Japanese by Motoyuki Shibata. His 2nd volume, The Chimney Stone, a book of ghazals, was published by Nightwood Editions in the fall of 2010.

Recognition[]

Muybridge's Horse won the 2003 CBC Literary Award for poetry. Published by Nightwood Editions in 2007, the final book, Muybridge's Horse: a poem in three phases,[3][4] was subsequently nominated for the 2007 Governor General's Award,[5][6] 2007 Trillium Book Award for Poetry,[7] and 2007 Ottawa Book Award, and was named a Globe & Mail Best Book for 2007.[8]

Winger is also the recipient of several grants from the Ontario Arts Council.
