Don Rusu Domanski (born 1950) is a Canadian poet.

Life[]

Domanski was born and raised in Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.[1]

He attended Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from which he earned a degree in English in 1973.[1]

He published a debut collection of poetry, the Cape Breton Book of the Dead, in 1975.[1]

Published and reviewed internationally, his work has been translated into Czechoslovakian, Portuguese, and Spanish.[2]

He has served on the faculty of The Banff Centre's Wired Writing Studio, and has been involved in the mentorship program of the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia.[1]

He is also an accomplished visual artist, who has exhibited his artwork in galleries in Halifax and internationally.[1]

He lives in Halifax.

Writing[]

Domanski has said he is inspired by the work of Wallace Stevens and Dylan Thomas, as well as Chinese poets such as Li Po.[1]

Recognition[]

Domanski won the CBC Literary Award for poetry in 1999. His poetry collections Wolf Ladder (1991) and Stations of the Left Hand (1995) were shortlisted for the Governor General's Award for English language poetry. He won the Governor General's Award in 2007 for All our Wonder Unavenged.[3]
