Catherine Smith (born 1962) is an English poet.[1]

Life[]

Youth and education[]

Smith was born in Windsor, Berkshire.[2]

She attended Windsor Girls' School, the University of Bradford, and the University of Sussex.[2]

Career[]

Smith has taught for the University of Sussex, Veridon College in Brighton, and the Arvon Foundation.[3]

She lives in Lewes, East Sussex. She is married and has 2 adult sons.[2]

Recognition[]

Smith's debut publication, the pamphlet The New Bride, won the 2000 Book & Pamphlet Competition and was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection.[2]

Her debut full-length collection, The Butcher's Hands, won the Aldeburgh/Jerwood Prize for Best First Collection.[2]

Her next collection, Lip, was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Collection.[2]
