Barbara Ras (born 1949) is an American poet, translator, and publisher.
Life[]
Ras was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts . She graduated from Simmons College, and University of Oregon. She taught writing at Warren Wilson College.
She has been on the editorial staffs of Wesleyan University Press, the University Press of New England, the University of California Press, North Point Press and Sierra Club Books. She was senior editor acquiring environmental books for the University of Georgia Press.[1][2] Since 2005, she has been the director of Trinity University Press, San Antonio, Texas.[3][4] She lives with her husband; they have a daughte, born in 1984.
She has traveled extensively in Latin America and lived for periods of time in Colombia and Costa Rica.
Her work has appeared in literary journals and magazines including The New Yorker, Boulevard, Massachusetts Review, Prairie Schooner, American Scholar, and Spoon River Poetry Review.
